E.A.K. (Erase All Kittens) is a very bizarre online platform game that teaches children how to code in HTML and CSS by encouraging them to hack into the game’s levels to solve puzzles.
The children play as Arca – a mysterious little creature who was banished to the ruins of the Ancient Internet. Their mission is to save the kittens of the Internet before something terrible happens to them. To do this they have to build ledges across perilous caves, create portals, change the colour of skies so you can see monsters and much more.
Each level is presented as a challenge, and clicking the edit button splits the screen to reveal the code behind each level. Editing this code changes the level in different ways to enable Arca to reach kittens or portals.
Erase All Kittens
It’s a fun little game, presented in a way that will definitely appeal to primary-age children. It provides a engaging and fun way to learn how to use the basic building blocks of HTML code such as divs, headings and other important tags.
Erase All Kittens is free to play, and open-source. It seems to be a demo/beta for now with the creators keen to get feedback from teachers to refine and improve it.
